Vidya first appeared as the heroine in the Malayalam language movie Chakram, paired with Mohanlal and She signed on twelve other Mallu movies. Chakram movie was dropped for production problems.
Malayalam cinema field and film producers blamed vidya balan for bringing "bad luck" to the Chakram movie and labelled her as a "jinx" and replaced her in all of twelve other Mallu films. She then changed focus to Tamil cinema field.
Vidya balan was cast as the Heroine in Tamil leading director N. Linguswamy's movie Run in 2001. After completing the first shooting schedule of the movie "Run", she was released from movie and replaced by Malaiyalam Actress Meera Jasmine.
